When an American submarine sinks in the Caribbean, a U.S. search and recovery team works with an oil platform crew to recover the vessel while racing against Soviet vessels. A civilian diving team is enlisted to search for the lost nuclear submarine. As they pursue the mission, the team faces danger while encountering an alien aquatic species.
