The second season of The X-Files takes place after the department is shut down following the first season finale. While including stand-alone "Monster-of-the-Week" episodes, several episodes further develop the alien conspiracy mythology that had begun to form. With the X-Files officially closed, Mulder travels to Puerto Rico on a tip from his mentor in the Senate. His mission is to uncover the reason behind the sudden reactivation of a remote, long-abandoned SETI-like communications station.
